I am pleased to announce that Michael Shay O’Mara, MD, MBA, FACS, has been named medical director of the OhioHealth Grant Medical Center Trauma Program. Dr. O’Mara has been serving as the interim medical director of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at Grant since March 2013. Previously, he served as associate medical director of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. Prior to joining OhioHealth, Dr. O’Mara was the medical director of the Acute Care Surgery Medical Group in Sacramento, California. Dr. O’Mara received his MD from the University of Iowa and his MBA from Auburn University. He completed his residency in general surgery at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital and a fellowship in critical care and trauma at the University of California Davis Medical Center. He is board certified in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In his role as medical director of Grant’s Trauma Program, Dr. O’Mara will have oversight for all clinical and strategic operations related to trauma services at Grant, including community outreach, research, education, prevention, and maintenance of the Level I trauma verification.
