November 15 – 16, 2010: Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)

This two-day class is designed to present the core elements of a comprehensive, systematic and multi-component crisis intervention curriculum. It will also prepare participants to understand a wide range of crisis intervention services. Fundamentals of CISM will be outlined and participants will leave with the knowledge and tools to provide several group crisis interventions, specifically demobilizations, defusings and the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). The need for appropriate follow-up services and referrals when necessary will also be discussed.

This class is designed for anyone in the fields of Business and Industry Crisis Intervention, Disaster Response, Education, Emergency Services, Employee Assistance, Healthcare, Homeland Security, Mental Health, Military, Spiritual Care, and Traumatic Stress.

The instructor for this class is Mike Haley, CTR. Mike was a police officer for 26 years before retiring as Chief of Police for Clinton Township. He is currently the Chairperson of the National Fraternal Order of Police’s Critical Incident Program and the Director of the Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio’s Critical Incident Response Service, which he has chaired since 1996. Mike is the founder of the Mid-Ohio Critical Incident Stress Management Team, which serves law enforcement in the Columbus metropolitan area. Mike responded on multiple occasions to the World Trade Center disaster as part of a law enforcement CISM response. He also provided CISM services to the New Orleans Police Department during the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. Mike is certified by the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists as a Certified Trauma Responder CTR).

This class will be offered at the Norwich Township Fire Department Headquarters, located at 5181 Northwest Parkway, Hilliard, OH 43026. Registration begins at 7:30AM. The class is 8:00AM until 5:00PM.
