For the first time, OhioHealth and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium are offering a HOOFit walk on the weekend, making it more convenient for families and many of our own OhioHealth associates. The walk is scheduled for Sat., Oct. 13, at 10:30 a.m. (registration begins at 10 a.m. at the Activity Pavilion) and will feature OhioHealth cardiologists, including David Bicknell, DO, of Central Ohio Cardiovascular Physicians and Eugene Fu, MD, of Cardiovascular & Rhythm Specialists — both members of the Grant medical staff. And remember — the walks are free with zoo admission. For more information please visit OhioHealth.com/HOOFit.
Grant Medical Center’s STEMI (ST-elevation myocardial infarction) program has been recognized for its commitment to a higher standard of care for heart attack patients with the American Heart Association’s “Mission: Lifeline Silver Performance Achievement Award.” Lory Winland, American Heart Association Ohio Mission:Lifeline Director said “Unlike the Olympics, silver doesn’t mean that you finished in second place. A silver award means you achieved this level over four full quarters, or one year.”
In 12 consecutive months, Grant’s STEMI program has treated 92 percent of eligible STEMI patients within 90 minutes, a timeframe recommended by the American Heart Association. Our treatment rate outperforms the Ohio rate of 65 percent and the national rate of 63 percent. These figures are made possible by our skilled team of physicians and nurses and our coordination with Emergency Medical Services (EMS). This year, there are only 226 hospitals across the nation and only 18 hospitals in Ohio that received this award. Of those 18 hospitals in Ohio, only four received the Silver–level award.

Grant recently was honored with the Get With The Guidelines Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for our performance in treating cardiac and stroke patients using the association’s GWTG program.
GWTG is a hospital-based quality improvement program designed to ensure that hospitals consistently care for cardiac and stroke patients following the most up-to-date guidelines and recommendations.
The Silver Performance Achievement Award is a wonderful reflection of Grant physicians and associates’ commitment to our cardiac and stroke patients.
